A push-pull solenoid is a type of linear electromechanical actuator that creates motion in a straight line—either pushing or pulling an object—when energized with electricity.

⚙️ What Is a Push-Pull Solenoid?

It's a device that uses an electromagnetic coil to move a plunger (or armature) linearly. Unlike a basic pull-type solenoid, a push-pull solenoid is often designed to deliver force in both directions, depending on its design and configuration.

��️ How It Works:

1. De-energized State:

   • A spring holds the plunger in its default position—usually fully extended or retracted.

2. When Energized:

   • Current flows through the coil, generating a magnetic field.

   • The magnetic field pulls (or sometimes pushes) the plunger into a new position.

3. Return Stroke:

   • When the power is cut off, the spring (or a second coil in some designs) returns the plunger to its original position.

�� Push vs. Pull Motion:

• Pull Solenoid: The plunger is pulled inward when energized.

• Push Solenoid: The plunger pushes outward when energized (often by reversing how the plunger is mounted or using a special mechanical design).

• Push-Pull Solenoid: Can perform both motions either by:

  • Having two coils (bi-directional)

  • Using a spring return with mechanical linkage to convert pull into a push
